Day 1, Saturday, May 21, 2016 –It’s back again --- the favorites of Ethnic Highlights of Omaha Tour! In three days you’ll experience Ireland, Ukraine, Scotland, China, Germany, Czech, Greece, South America, and Lithuania. In each of these countries you’ll taste their food and learn about the cultures of the people. This afternoon we arrive in Omaha just in time for a cruise on the Missouri River. Late afternoon we board the Star Riverboat. You’ll taste the cuisine of an Irish buffet while listening to the music of the Irish Folk Singer, David Marsh. Tonight you may unpack for 3 nights. (D)
Day 2, Sunday, May 22, 2016 – Early this morning Olesia Reprichowskyj brings her treasures to the hotel to show you while she talks about the history, customs, and traditions of the Ukraine. She is an entertaining speaker and will have you laughing while you learn. Then an Omaha city driving tour will introduce you to Omaha; you’ll hear about the past, present and future of the city. Did you know that Warren Buffet has a mansion here and this is where Henry Fonda got his start? Lunch today is at the Bohemian Café, where you’ll get a taste of Czechoslovakia. You’ll savor tastes and flavors not seen on traditional menus served in restaurants. You’ll even get a kolache demonstration. The gardens at Lauritzen Botanical Gardens and Arboretum should be beautiful in May. An afternoon tram ride through the gardens shows us the flowers in bloom; tucked into the gardens are statues and special exhibits. It is also a great place for a walk, after the tour you may walk through the arboretum and check out the gift shop. It’s time for a refreshing cup of tea at the Tea Smith. This is a tea tasting where we learn the history of the different teas of China. If you like what you tasted you may buy tea and accessories. Tonight we experience South America through food and music. After tasting food from Chile, Peru, Bolivia, and Ecuador, Oscar Rios Pohirleth will entertain with storytelling and the Music of the Andes. (B) (L) (D)
Day 3, Monday, May 23, 2016 – Breakfast is included before we visit the historic 1903 Joslyn Castle. This is a 30 room home that resembles a traditional Scottish castle. After a guided tour of the home, a husband and wife team will give a Scottish presentation through stories and dance. Are you hungry? It is time for lunch at the St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church where you’ll experience a homemade Greek lunch along with a dance performance. There is a fun audience participation lesson where everyone learns the Greek Wedding Dance. This afternoon is all about help, healing and hope with a visit to Boys Town. The village of Boys Town proves that not only one life, but every life can make a difference in the life of a child. With a guide you’ll visit the Hall of History, the chapel and the historic home of Father Flannigan. There is time to look in the gift shop before returning to the hotel to freshen up for an evening at the German – American Society. Tonight our menu is Rouladen a traditional German dish. Singers and dancers demonstrate their culture in a mini – like Octoberfest. (B) (L) (D)
Day 4, Tuesday, May 24, 2016 - Before leaving Omaha for home, we’ll visit with the Machevicius family from Lithuania. They’ll reveal how their family escaped Germany in WWII and moved to Omaha to start a bakery business. They’ll show us how their famous bread is baked and you get to sample one of their tortes. You may want to purchase some of the bakery goods to take home and share with your families. Lunch is included in Sioux Falls and late this afternoon you’ll be back in Kerkhoven at Rustad’s Bus Garage. (B) (L)
