Day 1, Friday, November 18 – Chicago is an exciting city anytime of the year, but at Christmas time it is dazzling! As usual the first day is always a travel day. We ride to Chicago in a gaily decorated motorcoach, the wheels turn to the beat of popular Christmas tunes, and the chatter is lively as the group becomes acquainted. Lunch will be included and soon we’re joining Chicago traffic as we make our way into Downtown Chicago and our home for the next 3 nights, the Hampton Inn in downtown Chicago! (L)
Day 2, Saturday, November 19 – Our city guide for the next 2 days, Ed will begin this morning with a “Wonderful Town” tour, highlighting Chicago’s history, architecture, culture and magnificent skyline as you traverse the city and travel along Lake Shore Drive South. Mid-morning we visit the Museum of Science & Industry. This was originally built for the World’s Fair in 1893 to house the Palace of Fine Arts. Today we have time to see their annual display of “Christmas Trees around the World” besides so many other displays that make up the largest science museum in the Western Hemisphere! Noon lunch will be on your own here before continuing our city tour through Jackson Park, University of Chicago, South Shore Country Club and Prairie Avenue called “Millionaires Row”. Late afternoon we enjoy Chicago style Deep-Dish Pizza Dinner in a beautiful Victorian Mansion. Our day will wind down with a 90 minute fireworks cruise on the Chicago River during the Magnificent Mile Lights Festival! After returning to our downtown accommodations you will still have some free time to explore the area on your own. (B) (D)
Day 3, Sunday, November 20 – Ed is back with us and we begin the morning climbing over 90 stories in less than a minute to 360 Chicago Skydeck! This is located in the John Hancock Building and is the only open-air observatory high above Michigan Avenue with a view of four states, Lake Michigan and an indescribable view of Chicago. Mid-morning we visit the Water Tower Place which is filled with shops and Harry Caray’s restaurant is a great stop for the guys! We even put in a special stop at Harry Caray’s Chicago Sports Museum. Noon meal will be included in the historic Walnut Room in Macy’s on State Street. This is a Christmas tradition going back many years in downtown Chicago and they will have their 45 foot Christmas tree all decorated. After a little free time for shopping in Macy’s and a short time for relaxation at our hotel we are going to return to the roaring 20’s. Relive the days of Al Capone and Elliot Ness in the story of the Untouchables in Chicago’s only original Speakeasy Dinner Theater, Tommy Gun’s Garage! After an exciting evening of being transported back to the 1920’s with da gangsters and da flappers and roaring twenties music, silent movies and memorabilia we return to our accommodations for a good night’s rest. Day 4, Monday, November 21– After a busy weekend in “Your Kind Of Town” Chicago, we’re on our way home. We’ll make our usual stops at the cheese shop and include a scrumptious meal at the Norske Nook. Soon you’ll be back to your cars that are parked at Rustad Tours. People will be there to help you load all your Christmas presents purchased on the tour into your vehicles. (B) (L)
