Day 1, Saturday, October 16 - Heading east through
the colorful hills of Wisconsin, we stop for an included luncheon in
Black River Falls. The afternoon passes quickly traveling to
Illinois to our motel on the outskirts of Chicago. (L)
Day 2, Sunday, October 17 - This morning we enter
Indiana and skirt Indianapolis traveling towards Ohio. Noon meal is
included at an old Historic Inn the Sherman House. People have been
dining here since 1852. Evening accommodation is in Lexington,
Kentucky. (B) (L)
Day 3, Monday, October 18 – A local guide
joins us for a morning sightseeing tour of Lexington’s horse farms.
A stop will be made to view the training of horses at Keeneland, and
learn about the adoption of thoroughbreds after they are put out to
pasture at the Friends Farms. After a lunch break, we travel
southward across the colorful Appalachian Mountain Range.
Tonight we overnight in Asheville, North Carolina. (B)
Day 4, Tuesday, October 19 - The Biltmore House
and Gardens were built by George W. Vanderbilt. With audio
cassette tapes we stroll through a portion of the house and its
formal gardens. After an included lunch, we begin traveling on small
twisting roads through the Great Smoky Mountains National Park
and Newfound Gap. Following a winding route across streams
and through tunnels, we arrive in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, where we
overnight for two evenings. Tonight we attend the Black Bear

Day 5, Wednesday, October 20 - This morning a
guide will join us, and we take the smaller back roads tour
surrounding the area. Our guide will share with us the way
the mountain people lived here not so long ago. After an included
noon meal we return to Pigeon Forge to spend the afternoon at
Dollywood. Then our evening will be very exciting as we attend
the Dixie Stampede and enjoy an evening meal while watching
the North and South compete in zany games! (B) (L) (D)
Day 6, Thursday, October 21 - Leaving Pigeon
Forge, we return to Kentucky and follow a winding road through
Daniel Boone National Forest to Cumberland Falls. This is
only one of two places in the world to have a Moon Bow. After
strolling around the falls and buying postcards we travel to
Sinking Springs Farm, the birthplace of Abraham Lincoln.
Tonight we stay in Bardstown. We are given time to freshen up before
enjoying southern cooking and entertainment at The Old Stable.

Day 7, Friday, October 22 - This morning we visit
“My Old Kentucky Home” State Park. Stephen Collins Foster
wrote the song “My Old Kentucky Home” while staying at the
Federal Hill Mansion. Later, we leave Kentucky and travel across
Indiana, through downtown Chicago to our accommodations in
Schaumburg, a suburb of Chicago. Noon meal will be included and
usual rest stops will be made en route. (B) (L)
Day 8, Saturday, October 23 - Leaving Chicago, the
day flies by as the miles slip away. Time passes quickly as we enjoy
the autumn foliage of Wisconsin. After making our usual stops, we
arrive in familiar country, marking an end to an enjoyable autumn
tour to the Smoky Mountains. (B) (L)
