Day 1, Wednesday, June 16, 2010 – People have been asking for a tour that includes both the highlights of New York City and Washington DC. Rustad’s have designed a tour that shows you to the highlights of both, as well as Philadelphia, the Lancaster Amish, and Gettysburg. This tour is historical, fun, and entertaining. It’s a good tour for teachers, grandparents and families. Our first travel day brings us through Wisconsin’s rolling hills and south to Illinois. Noon lunch is included in Black River Falls and this evening we stay in Alsip, a southern suburb of Chicago. (L)

Day 2, Thursday, June 17, 2010 - Leaving the hustle and bustle of the Chicago traffic we follow I-80 east through Indiana and Ohio. Noon lunch is included in Toledo. This evening our accommodations are in Clarion, PA. It will be interesting to note how the scenery changes from fertile farmland, to big industrial cities, then to the low lying foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. (B) (L)

Day 3, Friday, June 18, 2010 – Still following I-80 we travel through various mountain ranges of the Appalachians. A lunch buffet is included at the Country Cupboard in Pennsylvania. Riding through the mountain scenery, past ski areas, and small towns we are soon on busy highways traveling through New Jersey. This evening we unpack for a three night stay at the Holiday Inn in Secaucus, NJ. (B) (L)

Day 4, Saturday, June 19, 2010 – This morning we drive through the Lincoln Tunnel and when we drive out, there she is, New York City! The Big Apple! A local guide joins us for a tour of lower Manhattan which includes Ground Zero. This afternoon we board a sightseeing boat the Zephyr. This is a great way to enjoy New York Harbor and learn about New York City. You’ll see the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, and pass below the Brooklyn Bridge. A live tour guide narrates throughout the cruise pointing out attractions and landmarks. Late afternoon we return to our hotel at the “Meadowlands.”. (B)

Day 5, Sunday, June 20, 2010 – We have another full day in New York City. Our local guide will be with us again while we explore the upper and middle Manhattan. This includes Rockefeller Center, the Top of the Rock, Central Park and more. A Broadway show will be included this afternoon. Tonight we return to our hotel in Secaucus. (B) (D)

Day 6, Monday, June 21, 2010 – Our motor coach turns south and we take the New Jersey Turnpike south to Philadelphia. First we visit the Liberty Bell Pavilion. After listening to the Ranger talk about the Liberty Bell and taking pictures, we step into the garden and take a picture of Independence Hall. Before boarding the coach, we take time to visit the graves of Benjamin and Deborah Franklin. Noon meal will be at the Plain and Fancy Restaurant in Bird-in-Hand, PA. A step-on guide will show us “roads less traveled” through the Amish Countryside. You’ll see Amish farmlands, farmers working in the fields with their mules, schoolhouses and wind wheels. Who knows there also may be something of interest to be explored in the Amish country side! Tonight our hotel is in York, PA. (B) (L)

Day 7, Tuesday, June 22, 2010 – Our day begins with a visit to the site of the bloodiest battle of the Civil War, the Gettysburg Battlefield. A guide boards our coach to take us through the battlefield where 51,000 men were wounded or killed. Minnesota forces fought on July 2, 1863, when a regiment of 262 men was ordered to charge 1,600 Confederate soldiers. This heroic conflict helped win the Gettysburg Battle. Noon lunch is at General Pickett’s Buffet. This evening we unpack for a three night stay at our hotel in Alexandria, Virginia. (B) (L)

Day 8, Wednesday, June 23, 2010 – Put on your comfortable shoes we are off to explore Washington D.C. A guide will show us as much as she can in two and a half days. A special highlight will be Arlington Cemetery. This was at one time the home of Robert E. Lee. Due to the Civil War he could not pay his taxes and the Government reclaimed his beautiful home. While at Arlington Cemetery, we will visit the graves of President Kennedy, and the graves of his brothers Robert and Ted. At the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier we observe the “Changing of the Guards”. Veterans of all wars are honored, their memorials are placed around the city, we’ll visit as many of these as time allows. (B)

Day 9, Thursday, June 24, 2010 - Today the guide will join us again for a full day of touring. We will visit such highlights as the U.S. Capitol, the Federal Triangle, Embassy Row, Smithsonian’s and more. You’ll be amazed at the buildings that make up our Nation’s Capitol City. (B)

This afternoon we sit back in the comfortable coach seats and enjoy the scenery while traveling to our accommodations in the suburbs of Pittsburg. (B)
