Day 1, Monday, April 26 - This
tour begins with a day of travel and getting to know your fellow
travelers. Noon meal is included in Black River Falls and this
evening we overnight in the Chicago area. (L)
Day 2, Tuesday, April 27 - After
a short ride around the southern side of Chicago, we join the
traffic heading south on I-65 to Nashville, Tennessee. We make good
time traveling through Indiana and Kentucky, by late afternoon we
check into the Best Western in Nashville. Tonight we enjoy an
included meal at the Cascade Restaurant in the
Opryland Hotel. (B) (D)
Day 3, Wednesday, April 28 -The
highlight today is the Great Smoky Mountain National Park
located in the Appalachian Mountains. This is the most visited of
all our National Parks. This afternoon we enjoy a leisurely drive
through the park making picture stops at scenic overlooks. Tonight
we stay in Asheville, North Carolina. (B) (L)
Day 4, Thursday, April 29 -
You will discover the world of the Vanderbilt’s with an
audiotape tour of the Biltmore Mansion. The house has 250
rooms filled with treasures collected from all over the world. Noon
meal is included before traveling to Savannah, Georgia for
our night’s stay. (B) (L)
Day 5, Friday, April 30 –
Savannah has one of the largest restored National Historic
Landmark Districts in the Nation. Our morning begins with a
guided tour through this District showing us over 270 years of rich
history. Noon lunch is included on the Savannah Riverboat
Cruise while we enjoy Savannah from the water. Late afternoon we
travel to Charleston, South Carolina where we can unpack for a two
night stay. (B) (L)
Day 6, Saturday, May 1 - After
meeting a local guide you will experience the charm of
Charleston’s Historic District. and later eat lunch in a
historic restaurant that has been in the family business since 1924.
Next we drive to the Magnolia Plantation to board a nature
train for a look at the plantation wildlife refuge and tour the
beautiful colonial home. (B)
Day 7, Sunday, May 2 – With the
assistance of a guide at Brookgreen Gardens, we are able to
explore the moss-draped oak trees and outdoor sculptures, by
artists, from all over the world. Following this we have free time
at Barefoot Landing in Myrtle Beach to eat and shop. (But you
can keep your shoes on!) Our accommodations this evening is in
Morehead City, North Carolina. (B)
Day 8, Monday, May 3 -A 2 1/2
hour ferry ride takes us from Cedar Island across the Palmico Sound
to Ocracoke, North Carolina. After walking a street paved with
oyster shells and visiting a British Cemetery, we travel north on
the necklace of islands that make up the Outer Banks. Along
the way we’ll see wild ponies, lighthouses, sand dunes, and hear
stories of ferocious pirates and shipwrecks. Our hotel for two
nights is on the sandy beaches of the Atlantic Ocean.

Day 9, Tuesday, May 4 - This
morning follow the footsteps of the first Europeans who came to
Roanoke Island in 1585. After exploring the 16th century
at the Festival Park, we visit the boat that is a replica of the
type used in that time period. You’ll have free time for lunch and
shopping on the waterfront before we visit the Elizabethan
Gardens (a living memorial to honor the early colonists). Later
we check out the site where Orville and Wilbur Wright flew the first
plane at Kill Devil Hill. Our evening is free to stroll along
the beach. (B)
Day 10, Wednesday, May 5 – This
morning we depart the coastline of North Carolina and travel to
Raleigh to visit the NC Museum of History. Our afternoon
drive will take us through Durham to Greensboro, NC and our evening
accommodations (B) (L)
Day 11, Thursday, May 6 – The
North Carolina terrain will change this morning as our coach travels
west through the Appalachian Mountains into Tennessee with a
late afternoon arrival to Renfro Valley, Kentucky. After
checking into our motel, we enjoy a family style dinner, before
attending a foot stompin’ hand clappin’ show called Front Porch
Pickin’s. (B) (D)
Day 12, Friday, May 7 – After an
exciting evening in Renfro Valley, a relaxed day of travel is ahead
of us. Enjoy seeing the horse farms, tobacco sheds and the rolling
hills of Northern Kentucky. Lunch is included in Batesville, Indiana
and tonight we spend our last evening in the outskirts of Chicago.

Day 13, Saturday, May 8 – Today
our travels home take us through Wisconsin where we stop to buy some
good ole’ Wisconsin cheese. Noon meal is included at the Norsk Nook
and early evening we arrive back to Rustad’s Bus Garage. (B) (L)
